Descripción
Mdina, the ancient medieval capital of Malta, is now known as "the silent city" because you can hear your own footsteps as you walk its streets. Upon crossing its entrance, you'll feel transported back in time. It's no wonder that many major productions, such as "Gladiator" and "Agora," have been filmed in its streets. Its appearance also invites you to dream of impossible worlds, like the city of King's Landing in the first season of "Game of Thrones." All it takes is leaning on its high walls to get a bird's-eye view of almost the entire island, allowing you to step into the shoes of the sentinels who once watched the seas and coasts from the same point, looking for the enemy. Surrounding Mdina, we find Rabat, the bustling town that sprang up around the once powerful and important city. Rabat is the opposite of Mdina: while Mdina is small, silent, and sparsely populated, inhabited mostly by Malta's old nobility, Rabat is a bustling and populous town where life is typical of the working classes of our island. In Rabat, we will visit St. Paul's Grotto, the patron of Malta, where according to tradition the apostle was imprisoned on his journey to Rome. We will also visit a section of St. Paul's catacombs, the only ones in Europe that still have agape tables where Romans bid farewell to their dead, as well as surprising WWII air raid shelters.
